AT&T Building Most Advanced Mobile Broadband Experience in Palm Beach County and Treasure Coast

By sophiesummers on 8:37 PM

Building on its strong 2010 record of network accomplishments, AT&T* today announced network improvement plans designed to enable 4G speeds** and enhanced reliability to Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast in 2011. The wireless network enhancement plans are part of AT&T's planned $19-billion investment in its nationwide wireless and wireline networks and other capital projects in 2011.

AT&T Florida President Marshall Criser, lll, says AT&T plans the following network improvements for Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast in 2011:
Deploying enhanced backhaul connections to more than 90 cell sites to enable 4G speeds and add capacity to support more mobile traffic, like adding traffic lanes to a highwayAdding spectrum carriers – more capacity – to more than 120 cell sites to support more voice and data trafficInstalling seven new cell sites to improve network coverage

"Our story is getting even better for Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast," Criser said. "Our recently announced agreement to acquire T-Mobile USA represents a great deal for customers and a major commitment to strengthen and expand our network. In fact, this deal, if approved, means that we'll be able to expand the next generation of mobile broadband – 4G LTE – from our current plan of 80 percent of the U.S. population to 95 percent."

The T-Mobile acquisition provides a fast, efficient and certain solution to the impending wireless exhaust situation facing both companies while adding cell towers.  Additional towers mean additional capacity which means fewer dropped calls. "We'll be able to provide better voice quality and data performance to our customers," added Criser.

AT&T invested more than $300 million in its Palm Beach County and Treasure Coast wireless and wireline networks from 2008 through 2010 as part of its commitment to superior service in the area. Last year's upgrades included:

Adding spectrum carriers to more than 90 cell sitesDeploying enhanced backhaul connections to more than 25 cell sitesInstalling six new cell sitesDeploying a DAS network at a southern Palm Beach County beach club

The nation's fastest mobile broadband network is getting faster with 4G. A key planned upgrade for 2011 is deployment of enhanced backhaul connections to more than 90 cell sites in Palm Beach County to enable 4G speeds. Backhaul connections carry traffic between cell sites and AT&T's nationwide network.  Enhanced fiber-optic and ethernet backhaul connections expand capacity many times over, and enable additional expansion in the years to come.

"We're investing in our local network to help AT&T customers take advantage of the numerous capabilities of their wireless devices," Criser said. "This year, we're committed to providing best-in-class wireless voice service to our customers, and we're backing that up with the right investments."

The investments made in the Palm Beach County and Treasure Coast wireless and wireline networks are part of the more than $2.8 billion AT&T invested from 2008 through 2010 across Florida.

AT&T's advanced network provides several important advantages for customers.  Unlike some competitors, AT&T's mobile broadband network provides customers with the ability to talk and surf at the same time. For instance, you can look up directions to an event while staying on the phone with your boss, or browse your favorite social media sites while chatting with a friend.  AT&T's mobile broadband network also is up to 35 percent faster than our largest competitor's CDMA-based network on average nationally.

AT&T also provides access to voice service in more than 220 countries and data service in more than 200 countries.  AT&T's largest competitor's CDMA-based devices work in fewer than 45 countries.  Business Traveler magazine recently named AT&T as having the "Best Mobile Coverage in the World" – the fourth time AT&T has received the distinction.

"AT&T is consistently among the top companies in the U.S. in terms of our capital investment and we're committed to helping our customers right here in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast take advantage of the numerous capabilities of their wireless devices," said Carlos Blanco, vice president and general manager, AT&T Mobility & Consumer Markets for South Florida.

Ed Chase, president and CEO of the Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce, said AT&T's significant investment to improve its network will further bolster Palm Beach County's reputation as a great place to live and work.

"High-tech expansions like this one help our business community, our local economy and our overall quality of life," Chase said. "Few businesses today are more competitive than the wireless industry. That level of competition results in investment and new technology, which delivers benefits to the entire community."
AT&T's focus is delivering the nation's most advanced mobile broadband experience, which includes delivering the benefits of mobile broadband networks, devices and applications. With the nation's fastest mobile broadband network, AT&T provides accelerated mobile data speeds and simultaneous voice and data capabilities for an amazing wireless voice and data experience.  At the same time, AT&T offers a wide-ranging portfolio of smartphones and devices, with 20 4G devices planned for 2011, including a robust Android lineup.  And we're driving development of wide-ranging mobile applications with three AT&T Foundry collaborative innovation centers planned for this year, as well as leadership in multiple initiatives to provide new tools for apps developers.

AT&T's mobile broadband network is based on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) family of technologies that includes GSM and UMTS, the most widely used wireless network platforms in the world.
AT&T also operates the nation's largest Wi-Fi network*** with more than 24,000 hotspots in the U.S. and access to more than 135,000 hotspots globally through roaming agreements. Most AT&T smartphone customers get access to our entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-Fi usage doesn't count against customers' monthly data plans.

Etymotic Research (www.etymotic.com), an innovator in hearing wellness solutions and the inventor of in-ear technology, today announced the expansion of its CUSTOM*FIT network of authorized custom ear impression centers through its partnerships with Advanced Communications Systems (ACS Custom), Ltd and Microsonic.  Designed to provide unprecedented levels of sound quality, fit and comfort, custom earmolds enhance any of the company's earplugs and in-ear headsets by making the product completely personalized to the user's ear.  With this new expansion, more than 1,000 audiologists will be added to take custom ear canal impressions. As a result, over 80 percent of the U.S. population is within 25 miles of an authorized CUSTOM*FIT center.

Etymotic already partners with Advanced Communications Systems, Ltd. (ACS Custom) and has signed on a new partner -- Microsonic -- to expand their network of audiologists, speed time-to-delivery of custom earmolds, and increase convenience for the consumer.   Etymotic has also launched a new website, complete with a network audiologist locator and interactive partner page at www.etymotic.com/customfit.

"Until recently, custom hearing protection and earphones were available only to professional musicians and at extremely high costs," said Mark Karnes, managing director of consumer products at Etymotic.  "Our CUSTOM*FIT program provides an opportunity for music lovers to have a custom experience at a reasonable cost.  And now we are making the experience more convenient than ever."

By adding CUSTOM*FIT earmolds to Etymotic's ear plugs and earphones, music lovers can enjoy complete comfort during extended listening, exercise and travel.  With a custom, secure fit designed specifically for the individual ear, users enjoy the highest levels of noise isolation, so they get the best sound quality at lower, safer levels.  Etymotic's custom earmolds are priced at $100 and come with a one year guarantee.

How Does It Work?
Etymotic customers must register their product on the Etymotic website to receive their CUSTOM*FIT voucher and to use their zip code to locate the nearest authorized audiologist within the CUSTOM*FIT network.  The audiologist will make an impression of the ear canal using soft silicone material.  The process takes less than 10 minutes.  Ear impressions are sent to production and customers typically receive their personalized earmolds within 3 - 4 weeks.

Path 1, a division of IP Video Networks, Inc., introduces "v.Cortex" to global Multichannel Video Programming Distributors (MVPD), including cable, IPTV and satellite network operators, to simulate subscriber perception of video quality.  With v.Cortex, MVPDs can evaluate video content from a customer perspective.

v.Cortex leverages BT's novel perceptual quality engine, to deliver consistent and precise measurement of MPEG encoded video library content.  It significantly reduces overhead by monitoring all of a network operator's video libraries, providing concise summaries of quality issues.  As MVPDs increase the size of their video libraries, quality assurance becomes more difficult and time consuming. "The v.Cortex analyzer ensures that network operators no longer have to watch every minute of every video to provide a high quality product to subscribers," said Bob Coackley, CEO, IPVN.

The v.Cortex workstation produces a perceptual score that is highly correlated with the mean opinion score (MOS) of an audience.  Operators can use the score to ensure all of their videos meet customer expectations prior to transmission.

Mike Galvin, Managing Director of BT Research and Technology, said:  "It is always rewarding to see innovative BT research applied to real world business issues in this way and we look forward to IPVN delivering the benefits of perceptual quality management technology to broadcasters and content service providers worldwide."

v.Cortex is available through channel partners around the world.  It is available for demonstration at the NAB Show in Las Vegas in the Path 1-IPVN booth: SU2902.

LeapFrog Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE:LF), a leader in education innovation and the creator of many award-winning products, today announced that its new 'Scout’s ABC Garden' app for iPhone®, iPod touch® and iPad is now available on the App Store. 'Scout's ABC Garden' app brings LeapFrog’s beloved and top-selling plush toys, Scout and Violet, to life as they help teach letters and letter sounds.

'Scout’s ABC Garden' app is fully loaded with features that have made LeapFrog a leader in the learning space. Features encourage children to explore letter names and sounds step by step, and each child's experience is customized based on his or her name, favorite food, favorite color and favorite animal. This personalization is carried throughout the game, delivering game content tailored to a child's individual interests.

“LeapFrog is bringing everything we know about learning and fun to the app marketplace with our adorable and very successful puppies, Scout and Violet,” said Craig Hendrickson, senior vice president and chief product officer for LeapFrog. “We are taking personalization to a higher level by alerting parents when their child is learning, and giving parents the ability to share these important learning milestones with friends and family through email and social channels.”

Swipe. Tap. Fun!
With the 'Scout's ABC Garden' app kids can explore Scout’s garden by touching and triggering fun and delightful sounds and animations like interactive clouds, bubbles, ticklish gophers, and Scout and Violet’s virtual radio that plays traditional kid-favorite songs. Kids can even rub Scout’s or Violet’s belly to hear a song with their name, or grow their own letter garden.

Other key aspects of the app include:
A is for Achievement. The app is customized to each child's level of learning, helping every child learn about letters and sounds at his or her own pace.
B is for Bragging. Alerted when learning happens, proud parents can also share in their child’s learning achievements. With each accomplished goal, not only does the child receive a badge or trophy, but parents are alerted to their child’s achievement which they can then celebrate and share via social channels, including Facebook.
C is for Customization. A main ingredient of the app’s appeal is its deep level of personalization. With the capacity to hold up to three profiles, a parent can customize the app for different children, including their favorite foods, colors and animals, so each can experience unique gameplay.

The 'Scout's ABC Garden' app is available for $3.99 from the App Store on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, or at www.itunes.com/appstore.

Launched a year ago, Contemporary Research's QMOD-SDI HD-SDI digital QAM modulator has created fresh solutions for distributing HD and SD SDI media from live studio feeds, high-performance digital signage players, and broadcast quality video sources. Applications include in-house broadband RF systems at sports, retail and entertainment facilities, corporate offices, colleges, schools and worship centers.

The QMOD-SDI accepts HD-SDI, SD-SDI, Component, S-Video and Composite video, plus digital and analog audio. Then, using the same technology as TV and cable broadcasters, the unit formats and amplifies the signal as an agile QAM digital cable channel.

GPI inputs can trigger EAS programming, input from the composite video and stereo. Video inputs are fully switchable between SDI, Component, and Composite inputs. Front-panel buttons and LCD display make for easy setup, and the half-rack space enclosure and low 10W power draw save both space and energy.

Contemporary Research President Scott Hetzler says, "The QMOD-HD which features analog VGA, Component, and S-Video/Composite inputs, has been well received by our dealers and users. When we asked our integrators what they preferred for digital video, the overwhelming response was for HD-SDI. There simply were no affordable HDTV modulators. Now, with the QMOD-SDI, there is one."

Fujifilm Finepix Z900EXR A Must-Have Camera for Fashionistas

FUJIFILM Corporation (President and CEO: Shigetaka Komori) is pleased to announce the glamorous new FinePix Z900 EXR digital camera. With its effortless good looks, feature-packed specification and brilliant picture-taking performance, it's set to become the must-have camera for Fashionistas this season.
Stepping into the shoes of the Z800 EXR, the new FinePix Z900 EXR comes in an eye-catching high gloss finish and offers a wide selection of Fujifilm's latest technologies to help deliver great images in all conditions. Specification highlights include a brand new EXR CMOS sensor, 5x wide-angle zoom lens, touch-screen LCD with improved user interface, a selection of high speed shooting modes and high quality video capture all packed into a slim body that'll fit neatly into a bag or pocket. Meaning style-conscious photographers nolonger have to compromise looks for picture quality.

Award winning EXR technology married with BSI-CMOS for breakthrough improvement.
Shoot with beautiful quality and never miss the moment. This is our concept for EXR-CMOS and the backed up technologies behind are below.

High Sensitivity
-With conventional sensor design, light has to pass through a layer of wiring before it reaches the photo diodes. This reduces the amount of light hitting the sensor. But with a BSI (Backside Illumination) sensor, the wiring layer and photo diodes are reversed so sensitivity is improved; a benefit that'sparticularly obvious when shooting in low light conditions.

High Speed
-Thanks to newly developed EXR Processor and BSI-CMOS, super fast transfer circuit made it possible for fast process and reading the files.  The real benefit here is; it can take high speed shooting and Full HD movie.

Intelligent Processor
-The camera can now recognize 27 scenes including blue sky (sky), green leaves (greenery), sunsets and even backlit scenes. According to each scene, camera can set the perfect setting (AF, exposure, white balance and flash) and take the best quality picture automatically. Therefore, all you needto do is press the shutter and you will get the perfect finish easily.
-The EXR processor also has the capability to spot and reduce purple colour fringing, most common on dark subjects against light backgrounds, and improves the resolution at the corners of an image for more uniform image sharpness.
-Perhaps the most obvious benefit of the EXR processor, however, is the new Rich User Interface, which employs Vector fonts and graphics to dramatically improve the appearance of the menus. Users can wave goodbye to pixellated graphics and enjoy smooth text and icons on the camera's menus, now presented on a LCD screen.
-For users whostruggle to find images on increasingly-large capacity memory cards, improved image searching capabilities will come in very handy. Now, searching through thousands of images can take seconds, not minutes. Once you've found the shots, it's easy to put them in to a photobook using the Photobook Assist function where the camera creates the book, tags the images.

3.5 inch LCD: a touch of class
Fujifilm has harnessed the very latest touch-screen technology on the FinePix Z900 EXR. The large, full-flat 3.5 inch wide (16:9) LCD has 460,000 dots for high image quality, plus it adds Multi Touch functionality to make it even easier to check sharpness and clarity on your shots. With the Z900 EXR you can use two fingers to expand and reduce image size or simply swipe from side-to-side to scroll through your shots,iPhone-style.

How many shots have you missedbecause your current compact hasn't been able to keep up with the action? The FinePix Z900 EXR makes missed shots a thing of the past thanks to its selectionof features for super-fast capture.

You can shoot up to 3 frames at3 frames per second 16 megapixel resolution, which will ensure you keep up with even the fastest action. Speed demons won't be disappointed by the high speed video function either with an incredible 320 frames per second available, which will stop anything in its tracks.

Fujifilm recognises that theworld doesn't just revolve around still images, which is why the FinePix Z900 EXR features high quality Full HD video capability especially under low lightcondition with Pixel Fusion Movie technology.  Here, pixels are doubled up to make them more sensitive to low light so it is perfect for the night party season!  Also, it can save as the H.264 format; which don't take up as much room on the memory card as a conventional AVI file. Not only does this mean you can shoot more high quality 1080p footage, it's easier to share with friends and family via sites like YouTube, or by simply plugging the camera straight into aHDTV.
Coming in five high glosscolours – black, red, white, pink or blue - there's a FinePix Z900 EXR to suit everyone (and every outfit!), plus its ultra slim body measuring just 18.2mm wide is easy to take anywhere. (Without the projection portion of the lens, it is 15.2mm thick)

Despite these svelte proportions, the Z900 EXR still manages to pack in a 5x wide-angle zoom lens covering 28-140mm (35mm equivalent) so you'll be ready to capture everything from group shots to tightly-cropped head and shoulders portraits. Plus, there's no need to worry about the battery running out half way through your evening; it now offers an improved life of approximately 220 frames per charge. Absolutely fabulous!

Nikon had the great idea to gift the D5100 with a high perfrmance sensor, the exact same one we fin din the D7000, the expert DSLR. This CMOS sensor, a 16 megapixels, is highly versatile : it performs like no other in high sensitivity and it outperforms all APS-C sensors when it comes to dynamical range. This sensor allows the D5100 to record Full HD movies at new higher frame rates for Nikon : 1920x1080/24p, 25p and 30p. The integrated microphone records mono sound only but, the camera gets a microphone slot in which you will be able to plug the new Nikon ME-1, external stereo microphone that Nikon launches today.

Yes, the Canon EOS 600D now has someone to talk to... the Nikon D5100 get s a 3" / 921 000 dots swivel screen... and swiveled on the right axis, not like the D5000 vertical display which was quite a disappointment. The D5100 gets a lot of what makes the D3100 : its compact body, the 11-points AF with 3D subject tracking, the lack of a secondary LCD screen, a small (Guide Number of 12) built-in flash and the 420 RGB exposure metering sensor. The AF uses the AF-S motorisation of the lenses and the camera can be used in a wireless flash environment, he Nikon CLS system. A new "effects" mode allow the user to apply various digital filters that you can edit, which also work in video recording mode. The EXPEED 2 processor is in charge of the camera's operation. A gain of 40% of the AF speed in LiveView and Full Time in video recording mode is claimed by Nikon, over the D7000 and D3100.

Olympus declined the resistance of the new underwater compact camera it launches today under the theme of pressure resistance. Able to go underwater as deep as 10m bellow the sea level, its reinforced frame may also resist to a 100kg pressure which means that you can actually fell or stand on it... provided your weight is not over 100kg... As usual, it can also fall from 3m high and still be working under -10°C freezing temperatures.

The Olympus TG-810 is also a 5x (28-140mm) camera with a 14 megapixels CCD (like ot predecessor the Mju Tough-8010). It can record HD moovies in 720p quality and the camera gets the digital art filters like soft focus, pine hole, sepia... It also can automatically detect the right scene mode and when it dives underwater, its pressure sensitive sensor activates the i-Underwater mode to ensure appropriate white balance and exposure settings. We appreciate it gets a new screens which is a huge quality leap forward, it now gets a 3" / 921 000 pixels.

Not only the Olympus TG-810 may dive underwater and resist to everyday's life accident, it is a perfect camera for travelers and to that respect, Olympus has implemented a GPS sensor, linked to a 70.000 locations databases. Accelemerometers and gyroscopes may also record, as a compass, the orientation of the camera when you shoot your images, the altitude, the underwater pressure, and so on...

Just when everyone thought the TOUGH range couldn’t get any tougher, Olympus launches the ultimate indestructible camera. The new OLYMPUS TOUGH TG-810 delivers fabulous-quality HD movies and stills – and something just as valuable: unlimited peace of mind. This state-of-the-art TOUGH blows the competition away with record-breaking ruggedness and unique TOUGH technology. The stats speak for themselves. The TOUGH flagship is the world's first camera that's crushproof* to a weight of 100kg, so an adult can tread on it and it'll keep going fine. Thanks to double-durable lens and port technology, the TG-810 is also waterproof*, shockproof*, freezeproof* and scratch resistant to an unprecedented degree. glare-resistant HyperCrystal III LCD, this stylish camera is the ideal companion for an active lifestyle - from home to hotel to a hike through the Himalayas. Packed with advanced automatic features for easy shooting in tricky conditions, the new TOUGH captures memories just like they happened, and keeps them extra safe for sharing wirelessly with friends and family. from late March 2011.

The toughest ever TOUGH
You don't have to live like a stuntman to abuse a camera. But with the OLYMPUS TOUGH flagship, you could. It' the world's first camera that's crushproof up to a weight of 100kg. But that’s just the start. A sliding double lock mechanism and additional metal lens barrier ensure the TG-810 is waterproof to a huge depth of 10m, shockproof to a height of 2m and freezeproof to -10°C. Because this camera is packed with ingenious technology that's hard to find elsewhere – andmakes it a joy to capture photos and HD movies, whatever the weather, wherever you are.

The safest and smartest
The best cameras (and mobile phones) often come with GPS. But only Olympus’ GPS & Electronic Compass has three sensors to record the direction the camera is pointing (even when it’s turned off). That makes it an excellent piece of kit for finding your way in unfamiliar surroundings. It displays more than 700,000 nearby geographic and natural points of interest – the maximum for a GPS-equipped camera. At a glance, users can check their latitude, longitude and altitude, shooting direction, the date and time or air and water pressure. In the water, the TG-810 really comes into its own. i-Underwater Snapshot, one of four underwater settings, detects when the camera is submerged and adjusts white balance automatically to ensure beautiful, worry-free shots – even in optional 3D mode. No matter the element, the 5x wide optical zoom lens (28-140mm**) provides precision and flexibility, while the large, three inch 920,000 dot high-definition HyperCrystal III LCDreproduces images on the spot in very high quality.

The NXCAM NEX-FS100E Super 35mm camcorder has been developed specifically for shooting truly stunning images at low cost. The high sensitivity, large format CMOS sensor is capable of producing full 1920 x1080 progressive images with shallow depth of field similar to that of a film camera.

For even more creative flexibility, the NEX-FS100 also enables extended continuous recording and simultaneous recording of HD video footage for instant backup with an HXR-FMU128 Flash Memory Unit. These and other valuable features make this compact, high performance camera ideal for producing everything from low budget commercials, music videos and documentaries to wedding videos.

The NEX-FS100E is supplied without lens so you can choose the optics which best suit your creative requirements. Sony's E-mount interchangeable lenses let you enjoy a level of creative freedom unimaginable with camcorders of the past and optional adaptors enable use of a vast array of lenses from a wide variety of manufacturers.

This product also comes with the full PrimeSupport package. That's fast, hassle-free repairs, a helpline offering expert technical advice, and a free loan unit while yours is repaired. Plus the peace of mind that Sony islooking after your equipment - and your business.

Equipped with a large CMOS sensor equivalent in size to Super 35mm film, the NEX-FS100E enables shooting with the same creative depth of field as the PMW-F3.

The sensor also features the optimum number of effective pixels for shooting HD moving images. At a high 50fps in all-pixel scan mode, this allows images to be captured with less colour aliasing, jaggedness and rolling shutter than DSLR cameras, while providing the sensitivity to shoot at a minimum illumination of 0.28lux*. Another advantage of Exmor technology is minimal noise whenshooting low-light scenes.
* When using a fixed shutter speed of 1/25, auto gain and an iris setting of F1.4 The SEL18200 lens supplied with the NEX-FS100EK enables shooting in illumination as low as 1.5lux when using a fixed shutter speed of 1/25, auto gain and auto iris

Sony's E-mount interchangeable lenses let you enjoy a level of creative freedom unimaginable with camcorders of the past. Thanks to the E-mount's short 18mm flange-back distance, using a mount adaptor allows shooting with a wide range of existing lenses. For example, with the optional LA-EA1 mount adaptor, you can take advantage of the abundant lenses (A-mount lenses). Third-party lens adaptors enable useof an ever wider -variety of additional lenses.

Featuring a compact, lightweight body with detachable grip, handle, and viewfinder, the NEX-FS100E is ideal for a wide range of shooting situations.

During hand-held shooting, the angle of thegrip can be changed as desired, and recording started and stopped with a button on the grip. Recording start/stop buttons are also provided onthe top and lower right of the camera.

There are also 1/4- and 3/8-inch screw holes on both the handle and the bottom of the camera body for mounting various peripheral devices. Plus a tape measure hook and an image sensor position index on the body.

Located on the optical axis, the 3.5-inch-type XtraFine™ LCD panel enables easier, more intuitive framing, especially during hand-held shooting. And the LCD panel can be rotated for stress-free operation when shooting low-angle scenes and digital signage footage. For easier, more precise focusing in daylight, the viewfinder comes witha detachable 1.2x magnifier.

Recording images at a different frame rate from that used for playback provides the extra versatility of slow and quick motion shooting. Furthermore, the NEX-FS100E enables Full HD (1920 x 1080) progressive slow and quick motion. Frame rates are selectable from among 50fps, 25fps, 12fps, 6fps, 3fps, 2fps and 1fps. So, for example, when recording at 1080/25p, if the frame rate is set to 50fps, images are recorded in 2 times slow motion. This means you can create impressive slow motion scenes without the need for troublesome editing.

Note: Shooting in slow and quick motion is possible during HD recording and in the progressive mode. Simultaneous recording to a memory card and the flash memory unit is not possible.

Recording to the directly mountable HXR-FMU128 Flash Memory unit allows continuous recording for over 10 hours without changing the recording medium. Simultaneous recording using memory cards and other media is also possible for secure backup when shooting footage that can't be reshot.

Note: When recording on different media, the resolution must be HD or SD. HD and SD cannot be simultaneously on different media.

Like other NXCAM series cameras, the NEX-FS100E uses the well established AVCHD recording format supported by a wide range of nonlinear editing systems. Better still, it's ready to shoot with a maximum frame rate of 1920 x 1080/50p (28Mbps) for even higher quality recording. For more flexibility, it's also possible to record in Standard Definition MPEG-2 format.

When shooting, the NEX-FS100E can output uncompressed 4:2:2 footage via HDMI (with an embedded SMPTE Time Code) which can be recorded onto external media, such as HDD.

A built-in GPS receiver makes the NEX-FS100E an ideal choice for professional videographers. The receiver gives you the ability to “geo-tag” shooting locations - making it easy if you need to return to the same location or to create a log when surveying remote locations. Your locations can be tracked on Google Maps and all GPS data can be extracted with a PC.

Additionally, the receiver automatically adjusts your camcorder’s clock to the proper time zone wheninternational travel is part of your assignment.

Six picture profile settings for different shooting conditions are provided as default settings. Selecting a picture profile for a particular scene offers an easy way to creatively change your shoot.

Press a single button to immediately review the last recorded scene.

Press a button and this enlarges the centre of the displayed image by 2x, a particularly useful feature when making critical focusing adjustments.

Onscreen display of a histogram enables easier exposure adjustment. The histogram also shows the point where the zebra pattern appears (the zebra point). This enables confirmation of overall brightness distribution and the brightness level set with the zebra function. As well as preventing overexposure, this is useful as a guide when aiming for optimum exposure of certain parts of an image, such as faces.

A peaking function draws a defined line around the subject displayed in the LCD monitor and viewfinder. Peaking sensitivity and colour (red, white, yellow) can be selected to enable more precisefocusing.

Centre, aspect, safety zone, guide frame and other markers can be displayed on the LCD.

Data Centre security is still flawed say Sentry42

By sophiesummers on 7:26 PM

Sophisticated cyber-attacks like last year’s stuxnet worm grab the headlines and trigger massive investment in anti-virus software but the chief threat to data centre security today remains ‘physical’ according to Alex Rabbetts of Norwich-based colocation specialists, Sentry42.

“Over half of the data security breaches in the UK this year will be the result of direct physical attack or theft from the data centre. The reality of our day-to-day enemy is not the international cyber terrorist gangs – it is more likely to be a disgruntled employee or petty criminal breaking in and stealing to order.”

“The lesson for data owners is clear – security needs to be professionally managed and this often means having it hosted in a specialist facility which has invested in substantial physical security. “There’s no point in investing in biometric access controls if anyone can pop around to the loading bay at the back and get to wherever they want,” says Rabbetts. “From the security hardware to the policies and procedures that govern the management of the data centre, effective data security is a speciality that often does fit easily within the normal office environment.“

This is why more companies are siting their data in specialist facilities like Sentry42’s new colocation data centre in Norwich. This centre has high perimeter fencing at least 30 metres from its main buildings, microwave intruder detection at all borders, digital CCTV covering the entire site, proximity reader access controls on all doors, biometric access control for data hall entry, proximity access control to all cabinets, and a dedicated security centre that is manned 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

“Data security is not about one-off gestures or knee-jerk investments in the latest software,” says Rabbetts. “To be effective, security is achieved by the consistent application of quality policies and procedures supported by the well-maintained hardware and devices – at Sentry42 we believe security is part of the organisation’s culture, a 24X7 habit.”

Sentry42’s 60,000 sqft newly refurbished Gatehouse Data Centre is located close to Norwich and will open to customers on May 11th.

Drive Striping Improves Performance in your PC

In this recent years technology has changes at a dramatic pace: memory, processor speed and memory size have grown over past few years. Likewise processor and memory improving, it surpass the improvements of disk speeds and more application become I/O limited. Especially if you are working with large files in daily basis, the hard drive may respond slow by making you wait for log time to load and save a particular document. For this type of problem the only way to increase the data rate and Input/output rate from a file system is by striping or distributing the file system over multiple disks. Even With disk striping, you can nearly double the storage performance of your computer in some applications.

Before knowing how to do disk striping let’s know what is disk striping. Disk striping is a method by which data extents to multiple hard drives. All hard drives involved in the stripe set are all together read from and written to. For example, if a striped set of disks consists of three hard drives, then the data will be read and written about three times faster because Windows is distributing the workload among three hard drives. It is wise to create the partitions equal in size to prevent wasting disk space. Each stripe created is part of the stripe set. Disk striping is used with unneeded array of independent disks (RAID). RAID is a storage system that uses multiple disks to store and distribute data. RAID has multiple implementations called “levels,” and a RAID array that only employs disk striping is called “RAID level 0? or simply “RAID 0.” When you use a RAID 0 array, your computer uses two or more hard drives as one logical volume. The RAID controller splits data evenly between all of the physical drives and writes the split data on each drive simultaneously.

There are two types of disk striping: single user and multi-user. Single user disk striping allows multiple hard disks to simultaneously service multiple I/O requests from a single workstation. Multi-user disk striping allows multiple I/O requests from several workstations to be sent to multiple hard disks. This means that while one hard disk is servicing a request from a workstation, another hard disk is handling a separate request from a different workstation.

In windows Xp before you do striping you need to install hard drive as your primary hard drive cannot be included in the striped set because you can only make striped sets on an empty hard drives. There will be minimum two new hard drive need to create striped set and maximum is 32 hard drives in the set. Once it’s done boot windows and log in as the administrator. Then enter DISKMGMT.MSC command at the run prompt to open disk management. After that right click on the located new disks. Select to dynamic disk command from the context menu. When you do, a wizard will open which will verify that you want to convert disk into a dynamic disk. Click yes. When the conversion completes, repeat the process for each disk in the striped set. To create the striped set, right-click in the empty space on one of your new disks and select the New Volume command from the context menu. Windows will then launch the New Volume wizard. When the wizard asks what type of volume that you want to create, select Striped. Then, follow the instructions to complete the wizard. The process involves simply selecting which disks should be included in the striped set. Your striped set is now ready to use.

Creating a striped set is an inexpensive way of considerably increasing performance. This process significantly improves the performance of the computer when reading and writing large files. Video production and audio recording are two professional applications that benefit from this speed boost. Follow this instruction and increase your pc performance.

Security Event Detection Tool - Elastic DetectorTM for Amazon EC2 by SECLUDIT

Elastic DetectorTM for Amazon EC2 is an innovative, fully automated security event detection tool for Amazon EC2. It helps administrators and users of Amazon EC2-based infrastructures to continuously detect holes on security groups and applications, thus dramatically reducing the risk of external and internal attacks with no management overhead. It constitutes a fundamental building block for security administrators to handle security on a dynamic infrastructure, at no administration cost.

Dynamic infrastructures, as opposed to classic static ones, rise the risk of external and internal attacks and exponentially rise the cost of security administration, due to manual management of the continuously changing security perimeter of the elastic set of servers. Elastic Detector for Amazon EC2 is the answer to the increasing security risks of a continuously changing infrastructure. It relies on SecludIT Elastic Security patent pending technology which is the answer to distributed architectures, dynamic threats and an attack surface that keeps changing, automatically building and adapting security perimeters so that the infrastructure is always protected.

While IT infrastructure evolves to answer business needs, Elastic DetectorTM for Amazon EC2 automatically sets the right security checks and corresponding alerts: this is an entirely new paradigm, called Auto-Checks. Contrarily to other security and monitoring tools, where administrators have to setup checks and alerts for each server, Elastic DetectorTM for Amazon EC2 auto-detects servers and automatically sets the checks and alerts. The administrator can do fine tuning of the checks and alerts to respond to specific needs but as long as the infrastructure keeps evolving, Elastic DetectorTM for Amazon EC2 keeps up with the security through the Auto-Checks.

Delivered as SaaS and without the need to install and maintain agents on virtual machines, Elastic DetectorTM for Amazon EC2 watches the security of Amazon EC2 infrastructures, helping administrators to provide a high-quality, professional service level to their customers and users. With Elastic DetectorTM for Amazon EC2, administrators are the very first to get alerted whenever there is an important problem, even when their infrastructure evolves and without the need for further manual configuration.

The very first users of Elastic DetectorTM for Amazon EC2 are enthusiastic: “Great thanks! What you say about ports and security groups makes sense and is very powerful. This is something you should definitely highlight”. Sergio Loureiro, CEO of SecludIT comments: “We are very proud of releasing today the very first product based on our innovative Auto-Checks technology. The first feedback we got are very positive, and Elastic DetectorTM is only at the beginning of what we can do. We are working hard on our product roadmap!”.

After a successful private beta test period, Elastic DetectorTM is now available for Amazon EC2 and it will be extended to support other cloud providers. Please sign-up at the website: www.secludit.com

The Acer Iconia A500, the Wi-Fi-only version of the Iconia A501, has had full release details disclosed in an announcement by Acer. This Honeycomb tablet features some impressive specs and essentially rivals the Motorola Xoom, but will be available with a less imposing price tag.

The Iconia A500 is set to launch at Best Buy in stores and online on April 24, and will feature an MSRP of $450. It will be available for preorder on April 14. Marketed largely as a gaming tablet, the Iconia still features the peripheral capabilities found in many modern slates, with its front- and rear-facing cameras, the ability to record 1080p video, Flash support, and the customization friendly Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS.

The Iconia A500 is coming on the heels of the Wi-Fi Motorola Xoom release, and it's interesting to see how the first ever Honeycomb tablet stacks up against the less expensive competitor.

9.8 in (h) x 6.6 in (w) x .51 in (d)

This table shows that the two are comparable in most every category except internal memory, which is largely offset by the Iconia A500's microSD card reader, which can support cards up to 32 GB. The Xoom has a card slot, though the Xoom does not yet support it as of April 2011. An update should bring the functionality on board. Acer has also said that it plans a 32 GB model for release sometime in the near future.

While the Iconia isn't breaking new ground, and is obviously following in the Xoom's Honeycomb footsteps, it's a viable way to obtain Google's tablet OS at 75% of the cost of what's currently available. For the time being, the Iconia A500 is exclusive to Best Buy, with its A501 4G counterpart set to launch from AT&T sometime this quarter.
