For those who like to abuse their electronics (and still have them working afterward), DRS is providing a dream come true. Their recently announced seven-inch rugged tablet, the X7, would definitely survive longer in the wilderness than I would. With supposedly nine hours of battery life (between two hot-swappable batteries), it will offer significantly more operating time than previous Armor models, and be able to take more punishment on a single charge.


Toughness Specs
The Armor X10gx had similar specs in terms of durability to the X7. Both can operate in -4 to 140 F degree temperatures, handle altitudes of 20,000ft, and have the same qualifications for use in hazardous locations (for those of you who may work in hazardous locations, and can understand these specs: ISAFE: UL 1604 Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C and D; CSA C22.2 No. 213-M1987; EN60079-0, EN60079-15:2005 (ATEX), ESD 22 kV). Additionally, the X7 can handle drops of six feet, earned an IP65 rating for ingress protection (meaning it's resistant to dust and moisture), and received a 514.5 score for handling vibration when tested to military standards (Procedure I, Category 3, MIL-STD-810F).


Other Specs
The X7 is very solid (and heavy) for a seven-inch tablet, weighing in at 2.8 pounds. The display has a 1024 x 600 resolution, is anti-glare, and features a dual mode digitizer and resistive touch. Internally, the X7 has an Intel Atom N450 1.66 GHz Processor, 2 GB SDRAM, a 40 or 80 GB solid-state drive (your choice!), and room inside for an SD/SDHC card. It runs Windows 7, has 802.11 a/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and features a fingerprint scanner.

The X7 will come with a standard three year warranty. Price information was not available at the time of this writing.
