What could Instagram do with $1 billion it got from Facebook’s acquisition? Perhaps a camera that combines the goodness of the photo sharing app with the retro, hipster-ish, use of Polaroid cameras.
The Instagram Socialmatic Camera concept from Italy-based ADR Studios is quite a large device. Modeled after Instagram’s logo, which is actually a play on Polaroid, the back of the camera has a printer capable of producing photos from sticky strips for fast and easy sharing. The device comes will come with 16GB of storage, a large 4.3-inch touch screen, interchangeable lens, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.
We can see great potential on this device. All it need is Instagram’s and Facebook’s permission. If not, ADR Studios can turn it into a Kickstarter project.

Belkin has announced its new LiveAction Camera accessories for iPhone and iPod touch devices. They include the LiveAction Camera Grip and LiveAction Camera Remote, new tools that make it easier to snap photos and record video. Using the LiveAction App, you can then share your digital images directly on Facebook or email by following the intuitive on-screen interface. The app also allows you to capture still photos and record video simultaneously. In fact, Belkin says that the LiveAction App, available for free at the Apple App Store, can be used alone as the primary camera app for the iPhone and iPod touch, in case you don't want to spend money on the gear.

Out of the box, the GH2 can record video in 24Mbit AVCHD format full HD resolution video. For a few of us that is plenty of quality, but others need more. This new hack has cranked the GH2 up a bunch of notches as well as lets the camera record 176Mbit AVCHD Intra video. That Intra tagged onto the back is a huge change.
AVCHD grabs only many of the frames from the sensor to make the video. AVCHD Intra on the other hand will grab every frame from the sensor creating video look better when played back. You can see a video under from a user going by Driftwood that was shot using the GH2 in 176Mbit AVCHD Intra and see what we think. How exactly you apply this hack isn’t mentioned in the video.

Here is a cool concept for a camera- a ball affixed with many camera sensors that can capture 360-degree panoramic photos. Make that ball throwable and capture photos when thrown as it reaches its highest point, simply to add some fun element. That is exactly what the researchers at Technische Universitat in Berlin has just developed, a Throwable Panoramic Ball Camera.
Although the Throwable Panoramic Ball Camera may seem such as a fun toy to play with, it's quite a complex piece of device. This unique ball is equipped with 36 2MP cellphone camera modules evenly distributed as well as encased around a 3D printed sphere. The ball is then padded to protect the gadgets encased inside it whenever thrown.
The Throwable Panoramic Ball also contains an accelerometer that calculates its movement. Whenever it reaches the peak height when thrown, it automatically snaps a single stitched photograph in 360 degree panorama. The capture image can then be uploaded to a PC through a USB connection. The developers of this unique ball shaped throwable camera intend to show it off Siggraph Asia 2011 in December with hopes to find a few interested investors for it. But for now, this Throwable Panoramic Ball Camera remains an interesting concept.

The Camera Grand Prix 2011 jury of specialized editors writing for 11 photography magazines of japan have picked the premium camera Fujifilm Finepix X100 as their choice : the Editors' Choice Award, a prestigious award, the second one for the X100 this year after the TIPA 2011 premium camera of the year. The hybrid viewfinder, the EXR processor, its magnesium alloy frame, its high quality built as well as its APS-C sized MOS sensor have seduced the jury this year.

Announced last September during the Photokina 2010 trade show, the new Sigma DSLR SD1 is now becoming true : il will be available in a few weeks, in June. It will offer the X3 triple layer sensor developped by Foveon, a company taken over by Sigma a few years ago. It counts on a stunning detail level to compete as its pricetag is set at a high $ 9,700 in the US and £6,199 in the UK.
The Sigma SD1 frame is made of magnesium, which ensures both lightweight and durability to the SLR. Weatherproof thanks to a sealing reinforced body, the SD1 will be able to be used in hostile environments. The 46 megapixels sensor signal will be treated by the latest TRUE II processor that will also help the SD1 to reach 5 fps in burst mode, a rather modest performance for a camera of that price which is not the only area where the Sigma SD1 seems to be undergifted... a basic 11-points autofocus system, a 460 000 dots screen or a 98% only viewfinder are among the technical specs of a rather amateur camera, yet, priced at a professional level of money you'd expect to spend on a more advanced SLR. But Sigma totaly counts on its new sensor to push the SD1 sales.
The SD1 will be available in June 2011.
What should make the Sigma SD1 so special and worth its price is its unique sensor technology. Developped by Foveon, a company later bought by Sigma, X3 sensor technology is a triple layer design where each color (RGB) has its own 15 megapixel layer to, once combined, form a colored image of 15 megapixels, when a total of 45 megapixels are needed (15 megapixels per layer). The main benefits of this technology is that the sensor sees the image in color and not only in levels of grey like all other sensors on the market do. This means that you can kiss the Bayer matrix good bye and get rid of moiré effect as well as the blur applied on conventional sensors to reduced these artefacts. This should result in a highly detailed image, top level color fidelity and most subtile nuances.
But this 46 megapixels APS-C sensor also raises questions about its sensibility...
We hope to get a Sigma SD1 sample soon in order to see how the Foveon X3 sensor behaves in our review.

High Sensitivity
-With conventional sensor design, light has to pass through a layer of wiring before it reaches the photo diodes. This reduces the amount of light hitting the sensor. But with a BSI (Backside Illumination) sensor, the wiring layer and photo diodes are reversed so sensitivity is improved; a benefit that'sparticularly obvious when shooting in low light conditions.
High Speed
-Thanks to newly developed EXR Processor and BSI-CMOS, super fast transfer circuit made it possible for fast process and reading the files. The real benefit here is; it can take high speed shooting and Full HD movie.
Intelligent Processor
-The camera can now recognize 27 scenes including blue sky (sky), green leaves (greenery), sunsets and even backlit scenes. According to each scene, camera can set the perfect setting (AF, exposure, white balance and flash) and take the best quality picture automatically. Therefore, all you needto do is press the shutter and you will get the perfect finish easily.
-The EXR processor also has the capability to spot and reduce purple colour fringing, most common on dark subjects against light backgrounds, and improves the resolution at the corners of an image for more uniform image sharpness.

Recording images at a different frame rate from that used for playback provides the extra versatility of slow and quick motion shooting. Furthermore, the NEX-FS100E enables Full HD (1920 x 1080) progressive slow and quick motion. Frame rates are selectable from among 50fps, 25fps, 12fps, 6fps, 3fps, 2fps and 1fps. So, for example, when recording at 1080/25p, if the frame rate is set to 50fps, images are recorded in 2 times slow motion. This means you can create impressive slow motion scenes without the need for troublesome editing.
Note: Shooting in slow and quick motion is possible during HD recording and in the progressive mode. Simultaneous recording to a memory card and the flash memory unit is not possible.
Recording to the directly mountable HXR-FMU128 Flash Memory unit allows continuous recording for over 10 hours without changing the recording medium. Simultaneous recording using memory cards and other media is also possible for secure backup when shooting footage that can't be reshot.
Note: When recording on different media, the resolution must be HD or SD. HD and SD cannot be simultaneously on different media.
Like other NXCAM series cameras, the NEX-FS100E uses the well established AVCHD recording format supported by a wide range of nonlinear editing systems. Better still, it's ready to shoot with a maximum frame rate of 1920 x 1080/50p (28Mbps) for even higher quality recording. For more flexibility, it's also possible to record in Standard Definition MPEG-2 format.
When shooting, the NEX-FS100E can output uncompressed 4:2:2 footage via HDMI (with an embedded SMPTE Time Code) which can be recorded onto external media, such as HDD.

Press a button and this enlarges the centre of the displayed image by 2x, a particularly useful feature when making critical focusing adjustments.
Onscreen display of a histogram enables easier exposure adjustment. The histogram also shows the point where the zebra pattern appears (the zebra point). This enables confirmation of overall brightness distribution and the brightness level set with the zebra function. As well as preventing overexposure, this is useful as a guide when aiming for optimum exposure of certain parts of an image, such as faces.
A peaking function draws a defined line around the subject displayed in the LCD monitor and viewfinder. Peaking sensitivity and colour (red, white, yellow) can be selected to enable more precisefocusing.

Perfect pictures in every situation
Thanks to a brand new hybrid sensor, the FinePix F550 EXR delivers extra fast, high quality results in a wide range of lighting conditions. The 16 megapixel sensor developed by Fujifilm is a clever combination of Back Side Illuminated CMOS (BSI-CMOS) and EXR technologies, which delivers superior results to a conventional sensor; particularly in low light conditions, and also offers high-speed shooting facilities and Full HD movie capture.
Light falling on ordinary sensors has to pass through a layer of wiring before it hits the light-sensitive photo diodes. This layer of wiring reduces light transmission. On the EXR BSI-CMOS sensor, however, the wiring layer is positioned behind the photo diodes so light sensitivity is vastly improved. Add to this the triple-layer EXR technology pioneered by Fujifilm in the F200 EXR and the result is a sensor that is capable of outstanding results, time after time.
Users can still select from the usual three different EXR shooting modes, or simply leave the FinePix F550 EXR to choose the best option itself by selecting Auto EXR. Those preferring to take control can pick from:
• High Resolution mode where the sensor utilises the full 16 megapixel resolution for high quality results that can be printed out at A3-size without the need for any re-sizing using software.

A tag is also placed on the image which, when using place names, can easily be searched for, enabling you to quickly find shots of a specific location or point of interest. Once images are found using the search function, it’s simple for users to create a photobook using the Photobook Assist function. Keep up with the action – no matter how fast it’s moving
The FinePix F550 EXR isn’t just clever; it’s quick as well, boasting a range of features that will keep pace with even the fastest moving action without compromising picture quality.
At full 16 megapixel resolution, the FinePix F550 EXR will deliver up to 8 frames per second for up to 8 frames before it has to pause to take a breath. If you want a longer burst of images or a faster frame rate, it can capture 11 frames per second at 8 megapixel resolution for up to 16 frames or the same frame rate for up to 32 frames at 4 megapixel resolution. Full HD for stunning videos
People don’t just want to capture their memories as photos any longer, there’s a big demand for high-quality video capture too. For this reason, a second model (the FinePix F500 EXR) has been introduced, which offers a virtually identical specification, without GPS.
Other differences between the two models include high speed capture on the F500 EXR of three frames per second at 16 megapixels for up to three frames, six frames per second for six frames at eight megapixels or 12 frames per second for 12 frames at four megapixels. The F500 EXR will also be available in a choice of five colours for the style-conscious photographer, while the F550 EXR is only available in a stylish black finish with red highlights.
