In the day and age, owning multiple cards–credit, debit, loyalty, et al.–is just a given. What’s really inconvenient is having to bring them everywhere all the time and risk losing one or two of them. A team called iCache recognizes this problem, and here at CTIA 2012 presented an elegant solution: the iCache Geode. It’s essentially an iPhone case that digitizes and securely stores all the cards you own, so you can use them when you’re out while leaving the original cards stowed safely at home.
Here’s how it works: The iCache Geode case includes a fingerprint scanner, a physical stand-in card called the GeoCard, a magnetic stripe reader and an E Ink display. There’s an app and a scanner attachment that’s part of the system, too. You use the scanner to quickly digitize your cards and save them, while the dedicated app designates the method of payment and programs it into the GeoCard. Say you’re paying at CVS and you’d like to use your loyalty card on site as well. Within the companion app, you select the particular credit or debit card you’ve earlier stored, then pull the GeoCard out of the case and tap it hard against a solid surface. The card becomes active and is loaded up with the proper info, while the loyalty barcode is displayed on the E Ink screen on the back of the case. Use your GeoCard normally, and let the scanner read the E Ink display to apply your discount.
iCache has taken some extra measures to help you feel secure about its product as well. In case you ever lose your iPhone, you don’t need to worry (aside from fretting about procuring another phone, that is). Your card details are stored in the Geode housing itself, not on the app, so thieves can’t break in and squander your wealth. Also, when you fire up the app, it’ll prompt you for a fingerprint scan to make sure you are who you say you are. Finally, for good measure, the card programming lasts a finite period of time, which you yourself have to set.

Created by Ari Krupnik & Associates, this officially-sanctioned Etcher iPad case comes with working knobs that you can rotate to draw. And just like the actual toy, you can shake it to erase the art and start over. It also comes with a “Made for iPad” certification
The creators have recently put up a Kickstarter project page in hopes that it would be funded to jumpstart production. Of course, the larger pledge you give, the more perks you receive. For instance, you can get an Etcher in nostalgic red for a $45 pledge; pay up to $100 for more colors options, even a special backer-only shade. For those who pay much more than that, there are also access to SDK, a package of five or 10 Etcher cases, and even a say on what open-source license the device’s source code will use.
So far, it has received a little under $7,500, barely 10 percent of its goal. Care to make this Etcher iPad cover a reality?

Both Kensington and Samsung have built a host of cases, chargers, stands, and other peripherals to protect the iPad 2 (in the case of Kensington) and Galaxy Tab 10.1 (obviously Samsung’s focus), and improve the functionality and capability of the tablets.
Cases, Stands and Styli for the iPad 2, Courtesy of Kensington
Kensington appears to have been busy this spring, and the fruits of its labors have ripened into six brand new iPad 2 accessories. For starters (and typists), there’s the $100 KeyFolio Pro Performance Keyboard Case. For customers who are really not that into typing, but could go for a traditional writing implement, Kensington has developed the $15 Virtuoso Stylus, which will let users write, draw, and annotate on their iPad 2s (when using the right apps).
Rounding out the list are four accessories meant to keep iPad 2s out of harm’s way: the $30 Kensington BlackBelt Protection Band, the creatively named $20 Protective Back Cover, the even more creatively named $40 Protective Cover and Stand, and the $50 Protective Folio and Stand.
All of these products are tailored to the iPad 2, and can currently be found online at Amazon, Kensington.com, and other major retailers.
